G. Enkhbold, consultant of "Erhelkhurd" cooperative of Khuvsgul Province: The cooperative supplied cashmere at a premium price using the Responsible Nomads code of practice.
In recent years, herders that produce meat, milk, dairy products, wool, and cashmere from livestock have been using the "Responsible Nomads"code of practice to sustainably manage pasture resources and improve income from the sale of raw materials. By raising our livestock responsibly and employing unique methods to add value to our products, we ensure the highest quality cashmere for our customers.
For example, when we prepare raw cashmere, we use screening techniques to sort the combed cashmere by color, clean the hairs, and sift out the dust and debris. This simplifies the cashmere production process and allows for tiered pricing based on color and quality. Last year, our "Erhelkhurd" cooperative supplied its cashmere to the market at a price ₮2,000-₮4,000 higher than the market rate.
By establishing direct partnerships with reliable and permanent organizations rather than selling to middlemen, we receive increased income from cashmere sales. Today, consumers place high importance on ethical and environmentally friendly products, and they are willing to pay a premium for cashmere that has been certified in accordance with these values. The responsible practices being used by livestock farmers reflect the sustainable development and positive progress of our industry.
