Trainings, special attention is being given not only to improving herders’ knowledge and practical skills, but also to supporting the sustainable operation of local collective organizations and strengthening herders’ participation and collective decision-making.

By supplying wool, cashmere, and other raw materials to factories through organized collective systems, herders will not only gain access to more stable markets, but also establish long-term partnerships with processing industries.

The main objective of these activities is to train herders in combing and grading yak down according to technological and quality requirements, provide cooperatives and herder groups with the necessary equipment and tools, improve the organization of raw material preparation, and establish a sustainable supply system.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by G. Deeshin, Executive Director of the Mongolian National Livestock Breeders Association; B. Ganzorig, President of the Mongolian National Veterinary Association; and N. Gankhuyag, Executive Director of the Mongolian National Federation of Pasture User Groups.

Ms. Anu Verma, Regional Coordinator for Asia of the International Land Coalition (ILC), and Mr. Stefano Di Gessa, Senior Specialist for Impact, Regionalization and Learning, visited Mongolia. During the visit, the delegation worked in Ulaanbaatar city and Bornuur soum of Tuv aimag to support preparations for the “Global Policy Dialogue” to be organized in Mongolia from 9–14 June this year within the framework of the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026) and the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17).

During the seminar, participants evaluated the current status, objectives, and key directions of the unified digital livestock system and identified areas for further development and improvement. They discussed registering each high-yield livestock, such as yaks and semi intensified farmed animals. Additionally, they exchanged ideas on increasing the system's cost-effectiveness and efficiency, fully integrating herders into electronic services, and improving the user interface.

Leading the development of an action plan for activities related to celebrating the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists as the Secretary-General

In Mongolia, there are two national networks for monitoring and assessing the condition of rangelands. One of these networks, operated by the NAHEM and the ALACAG, monitors and evaluates rangeland ecosystem activities and their changes at the regional and national levels. The photo-monitoring network, under the Ministry of Land Management, monitors and evaluates the impact of rangeland use, including its effects.
