Side event was collaboration with Ministry of Food, agriculture and light industry and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the USDA, the COP17 working group, and representatives from the Rangeland Development Program, and the event was moderated by Dr. U. Tungalag.
The objective of the discussion:
To share experiences on government policies, rangeland regeneration-based utilization, and the introduction of the Responsible Nomads Standard to create sustainable livestock development, particularly environmentally friendly, resilient, traceable, and competitive products.
- Dr. David Toledo, a scientific expert from the USDA, presented on "Main Concept of Resilience-based Rangeland Management."
- Dr. D. Bulgamaa, Director of the Rangeland Research and Development Program of the Mongolian Rangeland Network, spoke on "Development of STM in Mongolia: A Tool for Greening Approach."
- E. Anar, Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, presented on "Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry Sector."
- Dr. D. Burmaa, Executive Director of the Mongolian Rangeland Network, discussed "How STM is linked to the premium market."
- Dr. Enrique Michaud, Co-chair of the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists, presented on "How International Countries are Supporting the IYRP."
During the event, representatives from international organizations, the private sector, and regional organizations expressed interest in how government policy ensures sustainable rangeland management and the implementation of the "Responsible Herding" standard for good pastoral practices.
