The Consultative Convention of the Pasture Users of Dornod Aimag [Province] was held in Kherlen soum on May 31, 2017. A total of 50 participants attended the convention. This included delegates from the soums of Tsagaan Ovoo and Bayan-Uul (where the "Green Gold" project was initiated in 2016), the Soum [district] Governors of Choibalsan (where the project will commence this year), members of the Pasture Management Working Group, various Pasture User Group (PUG) leaders, herders, and representatives of Food and Agriculture Division and Agency for Land Administration and Management, Geodesy and Cartography, Information and Research Institute of Meteorology and Environment.
In line with project plans, pasture management working groups have been set up in the soums of Tsagaan Ovoo, Bayan Ulaan and Bulgan. Representatives of these working groups addressed the convention about the skills they acquired during their training, including survey development, planning, and monitoring. At the convention, H. Ganhuyag, Executive Director of the Mongolian National Federation of Pasture User Groups (MNFPUG), met with Ch. Ganbat, Deputy Governor of Dornod Aimag, and introduced the project plan for 2017-2020.
The Deputy Governor expressed his support for the "Green Gold and Livestock Health" project, and invited the project directors to join in implementing the "Pasture and Hay Usage Policy" of Dornod Aimag. It is worth noting that MNFPUG has previously worked with the Aimag administration in the formulation of this policy document, by making technical recommendations for the haymaking season and optimum hay-grass heights.
At the closing of the convention, participants produced an action plan and outlined their main objectives for 2017. MNFPUG will support the strengthening of the Pasture User Groups (PUGs), by providing consultation services to the herders, and supporting both a common fund and the micro projects of herders and herders' organizations.
