THE MAIN FINDINGS AND SUCCESS OF  PROJECT FOR MARKET AND PASTURE MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT IN 2020

In the scope of Pasture Management and Climate Change Adaptation Component, a total of 144 herder groups (PHG) has been organized; agreed on a three-year rangeland management plan by an inclusive integrated approach, and series of training on rangeland management and risk management for herders and government officers and specialist of soum level are provided.

The three-year rangeland management plan includes rangeland carrying capacity estimation of herder groups, the rangeland condition, boundaries of the herder groups and seasonal pastures, the resting period, rotational grazing schedule, the protection of hayfields, construction and maintenance of wells, rodent control, livestock quality improvement, and improvement of herder income. The documents were handed over to local governors. The three-year plan included in the “Annual land management plan of the soum’’, and delivered to the Citizens' Representative Meeting for approval and to ensure the implementation.

The three-year rangeland management plan consists of following areas and includes grazing, rotation, well rehabilitation, new construction, spring protection, fodder crops, rodent control, construction of hay and other fodder storage facilities, increasing household income, and increasing the income of herders. Herders are increasing their ability to cope with any natural risks by creating a risk fund.

Within the framework of implementation and organization of three-year rangeland management plan, a total of 1633.903 hectares rangeland including 150 hectares of 116 households of five groups in Bayandelger soum of Sukhbaatar province, 300 hectares of nine groups in Erdenetsagaan soum, 47000 hectares of 37 households in Angirt group of Norovlin soum of Khentii province, 47000 hectares of 30 households of Delgerkhaan group, 4000 hectares in Erdenemandal soum of Arkhangai province, 1500 hectares in Khairkhan, 500 hectares in Tuvshruulekh, 28500 hectares in Kharkhorin soum of Uvurkhangai province, 18000 hectares in Khalkhgol soum of Dornod province, 2800 hectares in Khulunbuir soum, and 31.153 hectares in Sergelen soum have been released from June to August, soum land manager and project coordinators jointly identified changes in rangeland through a rangeland photo monitoring study.

As part of rangeland management activities, Norovlin soum-7, Batshireet soum-8 and Umnudelger soum-8 of Khentii aimag,  Khalkhgol soum -9, Khulunbuir soum -5 of Dornod aimag, Delgertsogt soum -7, Saikhan-Ovoo soum-8 and Erdenedalai soum-13 of Dundgovi aimag, Target soum -8 and Kharkhorin soum-7 of Uvurkhangai aimag, Bayandelger soum -5, Tuvshinshiree soum-6 and Erdenetsagaan soum -9 of the Sukhbaatar aimag, a total of 112 PUGs have signed rangeland use agreement with soum governor.

To support the activities of the herder groups (PHG) and the accumulation of the herder’s matching fund, the founders 'meeting and charter of the establishment of 11 soum pasture users' associations (RPAs) were discussed and the registration was registered with the project staff.
