Ms. Anu Verma, Regional Coordinator for Asia of the International Land Coalition (ILC), and Mr. Stefano Di Gessa, Senior Specialist for Impact, Regionalization and Learning, visited Mongolia.
During the visit, the delegation worked in Ulaanbaatar city and Bornuur soum of Tuv aimag to support preparations for the “Global Policy Dialogue” to be organized in Mongolia from 9–14 June this year within the framework of the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026) and the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17).
The dialogue aims to discuss the importance of pastoralism and rangelands in ensuring food security, sustaining livelihoods, conserving biodiversity, and supporting climate change adaptation. It also seeks to identify multistakeholder approaches to address the pressing challenges faced by pastoralist communities worldwide and to amplify the voices, perspectives, and traditional knowledge of nomadic herders to the broader public.
The joint team of the International Land Coalition and the National Land Coalition held meetings and exchanged views with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MoFALI), the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Agency for Land Administration and Management, Geodesy and Cartography (ALAMGaC), UNDP, FAO, the World Bank, the European Union, the Asian Development Bank, the National Committee for COP17 Organization, the ADAPT and ECO-FARM projects, the Governor’s Office of Bornuur soum in Tuv aimag, the Bornuur Soum Pasture User Group Association, cooperatives, herders’ pasture user groups, and local herders to discuss opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
The Mongolian National Federation of Pasture User Groups is a member organization of the National Land Coalition and has been an active member of the International Land Coalition since 2018, maintaining effective and productive cooperation to date.
